Take Your Flower Press Hiking?

Some of my best flower finds ever have been while hiking or mountain biking.

Take your press hiking or biking? Why not.

Actually, you do not even need to go out and buy anything special. Just find an old pulpy paper back book. One approx 7 "X 4". Wrap 3 or 4 tight elastic bands around the book and throw it into your pack.

Yes it is that simple! When you find that special flower, open the book, pick the flower close to the calyx, turn it upside down, wiggle it a bit into the position you want it and carefully close the book. Wrap the elastic bands around the book and put it back into your pack.

Do not get too carried away or you may loose a few hiking / biking partners along the way! Not everyone will be patient enough to wait if you spend your whole time collecting. I should also mention here that some parks do not allow you to remove wildflowers. So be aware and pic flowers responsibly.

Do not forget to remove the elastics and place your book into a flower press once you get home. More than a few times I have forgotten this very important step and have lost my beautiful flowers.

I also like to carry a paper back book in my car. Sometimes my friends want to share a beautiful flower from their garden. Later I have a dried flower from their garden that I can turn into a beautiful gift of jewelry for them. Many times to their surprise and amazement.
